Proper infant child care in Wesley Chapel, Florida

Posted on 06-20-2014

The early months of a child's life can be overwhelming for new parents. While learning to adapt to their new surroundings, a child will experience many changes. At Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Meadow Pointe we understand and have compiled a list of five things that will happen during the first few months.

1. Crying

  • When was your infant's last feeding?
  • Does the child's diaper need changing?
  • The child may have gas. Burping can relieve the gas.
  • Is it naptime? Make sure your child is getting enough sleep.

2. Belly Button

Although very normal, when the dry umbilical cord falls off it is a concern for many new parents. The doctor cuts the umbilical cord at birth, and the remaining end falls off naturally within a few weeks. This is where your infant's belly button will develop. It is important to keep it clean and dry at all times. Be sure to follow your doctor's care instructions.

3. Skin

Your child's skin may look somewhat off color at birth, and a few days after. Do not be concerned as this is normal. Also, the skin may be dry and scaly. It is always best to keep your child's skin moisturized, and to bathe your child thoroughly and carefully.

4. Hair loss

Your child may be born with a head full of hair. It is normal for a new infant to lose some of that hair. This is not a cause for concern.

5. Diaper changes

For the first couple of weeks your child will probably have very loose stools in their diapers. The digestive system is adjusting, and this is a normal process. After a while your baby will become accustomed to their diet and their stools will become firmer.
